This page is about a health recovery, a journey - maybe a journal (not quite a daily journal). It is about sharing own experiences (trial and errors) and sharing the wisdom of others Crossing over to the "otherside" - of fifty, I realized my mortalism and thinking of the years ahead. I knew my lifestyle had to changes, to be healthier and active for longer Changing one's way from been a professional couch-potato to a more active/healthy lifestyle is not easy, in fact it is darn right Complicated. After running out of excuses (you know the usual - knee, back and-and) I started using conditions (diabetes, heart, etc) as excuse for reason not been fit/active. The classic old story of which was first, "the egg or the chicken?" was my revelation - was my lower back pain and bad knees there before my muscles became weak or after. Lifestyle change had to be Made It's the little things that has the most effects. Trying to improve by doing everyday task a little better each day. Things like cleaning that one drawer where everything gets thrown into. Decluttering is big on the agenda but sofar progress has been slow. I must admit "I need a little Help from my Friends" and Family. Things change at one stage you had a need for stuff like a 4 bedroom house or 3 cars. Without realizing it you now don't need the majority of stuff in your space anymore - things that had value is now just clutter I am really blessed to be surrounded by positive helpful young fit people at the Gym, in my workplace I have great clients and without the help of my super family this journey would have much slower. First Tip! Surrounding yourself with positive people and when you don't show up, it feel like letting them down. I feel like a old dog for being lazy when they express sincere concern with things like "Have you been sick" or "Are you Ok". I do hope with this journal page I can inspire you to become more active and fit. It's not about being young again (come to terms that the boat has left the harbour). This page is more about having a good life on the "otherside" after fifty. This page is also a place where I keep the wisdom from others - so if you see something that might belong to you drop me a line and will give you the recognition. After searching and reading a lot of websites and blogs for information on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle after fifty. I have found lot of useful information but I have also found a lot of junk. Every second site wants to sell you something magic. Marketers will go to great lengths to punch the numbers in their favour. The other thing I have learned from the internet is that we all have different bodies and we respond differently to stuff. Most of the guys and gals that is over 50 and still look like supermodels has been doing it for most of their life or they have been out of the fitness scene for a short period when they make this miraculous transformation. Again beware what are they trying to sell you. Fitness! you cannot buy it in a book or in a packet. Taking training advice from a young personal trainer, is like taking dieting tips from your fat cousin. Tip # two - Consistency Consistency is the keyword to a healthier lifestyle. It doesn't matter if you go to the gym or you are just getting your hands dirty in the garden, just be consistent about it. It's about forming new and better habits! Habits that get you off your butt and away from the booptub! Habits! I have tried to delete some old outdated bad habits but have failed miserably in my quested. Replacing an old habits with new healthier ones is so much easier than trying to stop. For Instance I was totally addicted to Coke and other flavoured chemical waters, it was just a losing battle when I tried to stop drinking carbonated sodas - but maybe I can discuss it in a another post. (old dog learning new tricks) Thanks for stopping, hope to exchange more healthy ideas with you soon again Should you be interested here are link to some of my old notes where I started the health journey http://www.pinepienaar.info/pines-health-journey.html
